Keeping your kids entertained while stuck at home can be a challenge. Whilst you might have started the lockdown full of ideas and inspiration for keeping your kids busy and happy at home, these ideas have probably been exhausted long ago and tensions are beginning to rise.
We’ve put together a handy list of ways to keep your kids entertained using photos! You can use digital photos, any photo prints you’ve got at home, or if haven’t got any, you can order your photo prints from Printerpix!
Looking at photos is fun, educational, and a great way to keep loved ones close in your minds while apart.
Create a family newsletter
This is a great way to get your kids writing! Create a family newsletter with the details of what you’ve been up to, with photos to illustrate. Include photos of the games you’ve played, walks you’ve been on, arts and crafts, bakes…Get your kids to interview members of the family, include photos and recipes of meals you’ve cooked this week, add a joke column or a cartoon…
A family newsletter is a special way to stay touch while social distancing. Send it to your family and friends – it’s sure to put a smile on their face!
Make a family tree
Use photos to create a more personal family tree. Just stick your photo prints onto paper and annotate with names! A great way to teach children about their family, especially if you’re separated for a while.
Make a family time capsule
This is a fun way to capture the current moment. Fill a box with photos of yourselves, drawings, newspaper clippings and more… Then get it out in 5 years’ time to see what’s changed! You’ll have so much fun putting it together, and even more fun getting it out again!
Create a scrapbook
The ultimate rainy-day activity! Get out your holiday photos and put together a scrapbook to remember. Stick photos and keepsakes like tickets, post cards, maps onto the pages to illustrate the holiday, then add a caption to write about what you did.
Get the family to do one together or make one each to capture individual memories. The kids will have so much fun looking back and reliving their happy memories.
Tell a story
Take a series of pictures that tell a story, then put photo prints together on paper to create your very own picture story book! Little ones can create a story without words, big ones can add captions to make a cartoon. Get creative.
The Story of Me
This one is perfect for kids of all ages. Get your kids to create an ‘all about me’ poster. Add photos of them now and when they were younger, their favourite things, their height, pets, friends, what they want to be when they’re older… Include photos of them doing their hobbies, with their friends and family, of their favourite foods…the choices are endless! Get your photo prints together and get creative.
Photo Wall
This is a great option for kids struggling with being at home away from friends and family. Create a photo wall with photos of their loved ones so that they can feel close to them. Just use an adhesive like blu tak or sticky tape to stick the photo prints to a wall in their bedroom – easy!
